保加利亚位于欧洲巴尔干半岛东南部.北面与罗马尼亚接壤（多瑙河当边界）,东南面毗邻土耳其和西南面,保加利亚行政区划希腊,西北面邻接塞尔维亚（以前南斯拉夫的成员国）和西南面毗邻马其顿（以前南斯拉夫的成员国）,东濒黑海.面积111001.9平方公里,海岸线长378公里.多瑙河是保加利亚与罗马尼亚的界河.巴尔干山（意为“多山的地方”,在保加利亚境内称为“老山”）将保加利亚分为北部的多瑙河平原和南部的色雷斯低地.
【同中国的关系】
中国与保加利亚于1949年10月4日建交.50年代,两国关系发展顺利.60年代起,双边交往1度减少.自80年代起两国各领域的交流与合作逐步增多,两国关系平稳发展.[8]
1952年中保两国政府签订了两国间个贸易协定.60,70年代双边贸易额大幅下降.80年代后,两国经贸关系发展较快.两国签署了鼓励和保护投资协定和避免双重征税协定.1985年成立了两国政府间经济,贸易及科技合作委员会.2009年,双方签署了《中华人民共和国商务部和保加利亚共和国经济能源旅游部关于经济合作的谅解备忘录》.2010年10月,中保经济联委会第14次例会在索非亚召开.
两国贸易额逐年增长.2001年为1.18亿美元,同比增长89.1%.2002年为1.19亿美元,同比增长1.33%.2003年为2.25亿美元,同比增长89.1%.2004年为4.05亿美元,同比增长79.9%.2005年为5.31亿美元,同比增长31%.2006年为18.65亿美元,增长251.37%.2007年为9.69亿美元,同比下降48%.2008年为13.3亿美元,同比增长36.8%.受金融危机影响,2009年中保双边贸易额为7.4亿美元,同比下降45.1%.2010年为9.8亿美元,同比增长33.5%.2011年为14.66亿美元,同比增长49.0%.2012年为19.0亿美元,同比增长29.4%,其中中方出口额10.6亿美元,进口额8.4亿美元,同比分别增长4.9%和83%.
